An outrageous event involving a Premier League football player has emerged and it has been reported that the player was threatened in a late-night incident in the city of London with a gun. The gamer, worth approximately PS60 million, is reported to have been walking with a friend when the incident occurred when he was approximately in his 20s.
Although the name of the footballer has not been disclosed the alleged threat led to the arrest of a renowned football agent who was reported by the Sun. At about 11:14 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, a player reportedly was confronted by a man wielding a firearm in Cockfosters Parade, Barnet, north London leading to the call of the police.
The report insists that the agent has a number of high profile clients with England internationals being some of them. The Metropolitan Police has reported that the suspect had been arrested on the suspicion of displaying a gun with the objective of causing fear or violence. He may be arrested but no official charges have been leveled against him yet.
Luckily, the footballer and his friend were not harmed. The officers started investigating, and two days later, they allegedly went to the home of the suspect. On September 8, the 31-year-old man was arrested and interrogated about various crimes, among which is possession of a gun with intent, blackmail and unlicensed driving. He has been released on bail after being put under stringent conditions as investigations are being done.
The case was substantiated by a police statement that reported that another man had pressed similar charges against the same person of blackmail and threats. The statement read:
At 23:14hrs on Saturday, 6 September, police were called to a report that a man had been threatened with a firearm at Cockfosters Parade at Barnet.
The officers addressed the victim and as they conducted their investigation, it was also stated that another man aged in his 20s had also been blackmailed and threatened by the same man. In both cases there were no reported injuries.
On Monday, 8 September, a 31-year-old man was arrested based on the suspicion of possession of firearms with intent, blackmail and driving without a license. It has been bailed and investigations are underway.
The bail granted to the suspect had a number of conditions. The Sun indicated that he was initially instructed not to get in touch with the footballer and banned to travel to foreign countries. A judge at one of the magistrates courts, however, granted him temporary permission to access his passport in October, and exit the United Kingdom, on a variation of the bail conditions.
Nonetheless, the suspect must provide his passport back to the police when he comes back in December. He is also not allowed to visit the training ground of the football club and even trying to reach the player who caused the incident.
According to the Sun, the footballer is getting emotional and practical help both by his club, and his family and close friends. This has allegedly shaken him given that he is said to be cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.
The Metropolitan Police are still making their investigations to establish the entire situation behind the so claimed confrontation and whether it has any links with the other so-called blackmail case.
The event has given shockwaves in the football fraternity and has also been a question of what harm even high profile players might be in our society even when they are off the field. Presumably, there are no official charges made against the suspect yet, the suspect is still under investigation, therefore, this case is open with the authorities trying to assemble the facts of what occurred that fateful night in September.
Today, the player of the Premier League and his friend are no longer in danger and law enforcement is keeping watch over whether the suspect adheres to his bail conditions. More issues are likely to arise in December when the man is supposed to hand over his passport and report back to police.
