Motorists Warned: Ngong Road to Face Nearly a Month of Traffic Disruptions

Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a 23-day traffic disruption along the Ngong Road at Junction Mall to undergo flyover construction activities.

On Thursday, November 6, KURA announced the break would commence on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, and end on Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

According to the authority, this is required to be closed to permit the construction of a steel structure that will comprise part of the new flyover on Ngong Road-Naivasha Road.

As KURA reports, construction works will occur during the night, between the hours of 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM, with the exception of Sundays to ensure that road users are not inconvenienced.

During this time, two-way traffic will be diverted between the Kenya Science Campus and the Nairobi City County Training School in order to have two-way traffic in the involved section.

Drivers have been advised to be careful, to observe the road signs, and to obey the police officers and traffic marshals who will be put in position to control the movement of traffic.

KURA assured people that the necessary measures have been established to guarantee safety and easy flow during the construction process.

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) would like to inform the general population that there will be a temporary road block on the Ngong Road around the Junction Mall area, effective Tuesday, 18th November 2025, to Wednesday, 10th December 2025.

The interruption is to enable the construction of the steel structure of the flyover, which is under construction at the moment.

A significant infrastructure project in the urban modernization plan of the government is the Ngong Road, Naivasha Road flyover project, which started construction in September 2024. It is projected to be finished by July 2027. Ksh3.58 billion is being funded by the Corporate International Fund of Spain (FIEM).

The importance of the project was recently brought into focus by the Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo who termed it a major intervention that would help to alleviate traffic congestion in Nairobi and enhance connectivity within the expanding southern stretch of the city.

Upon its opening, the flyover will have six lanes on the lower deck and four lanes on the upper deck, aimed at decongesting the area around Junction Mall and enhancing road safety.

It will also have 23 traffic lights to increase control and safety. PS Omollo also added that the project will be able to facilitate the accessibility of the future Talanta stadium, which will enable the integration of the modern and intelligent infrastructure into the growing transport network in Nairobi.
