No Green Card Lottery in 2027, US Government Clarifies
The government of the United States has also taken strides in dispelling misinformation on the start of applications to the Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery, where the government cautions people against internet fraudsters who take advantage of the confusion.
The Bureau of Consular Affairs of the U.S. Department of State made a statement on Wednesday, November 5, indicating that the DV-2027 program registration period is yet commenced.
The agency warned people against being fooled by fraudulent schemes to increase their chances of winning the visa draw which was very competitive.
The Bureau said that the entry registration period of the Diversity Visa (DV) 2027 has not opened yet.
We have heard of fake allegations that DV-2027 entry is open and people and services pretending that they can assist you to boost your chances of being selected. This is not true.”
The department has stressed that only official news on the lottery will be posted on the sites and media platforms that have been proven to be authentic U.S. government.
Any other sources it cautioned ought to be approached with suspicion. The diversity visa lottery, also referred to as the green card lottery, provides permanent residence to approximately 55,000 persons all over the world annually.
It aims to foster diversity among American immigrants as it chooses the applicants based on the countries that have had low immigration rates to the United States in the past.
Due to its popularity, the program has been an easy target of Internet scams and misinformation.
This explanation is in the context of an overall campaign by American officials to remind visa applicants and holders of the compliance and transparency requirements. In August 2012, the U.S. Embassy reminded international students on F-1 visas on the need to stick to their academic plans.
The embassy threatened the students against dropping out, missing classes, or dropping out of school without notifying them beforehand because they would lose legal status and might not be able to receive U.S. visas in the future.
Are you coming to the U.S. with a student visa? Ensure you stay on track! The embassy provided a list of the risks of dropping out, missing classes or even leaving your course of study without notifying your school, as your visa can be terminated, and you may never have the same chance of another U.S. visa.
The same advisory by the embassy on August 4 also advised Kenyan visa seekers to be explicit on the disclosure of their social media accounts when seeking a visa. Applicants who do so by withholding or falsifying such information, it warned, may be denied instantly and ineligible in the future.
Do you realize that failure to include the social media information may result in a denied visa and future ineligibility of a subsequent visa? The statement read.
As of 2019, the U.S. government has mandated all applicants of nonimmigrant and immigrant visas to submit their social media identifiers as part of an overall process of screening to ensure the security of the country.
The embassy reiterated that they use all the information they have in their visa screening and vetting to come up with applicants who are inadmissible in the United States and those who threaten national security.
As the registration to DV-2027 is still ongoing, the U.S. government has encouraged people to be vigilant and only believe what the authorities say and do not pay anybody afferring to assure them of being selected in the Green Card Lottery.
